The Advocacy Academy, the Civic Alliance, Freedom House Romania, the Group for Social Dialog (GDS), the Romanian Academic Society, the Timisoara Society and SoJust have constituted the Iniative for a Clean Justice System (IJC), as a continuation of the efforts of the Coalition for a Clean Parliament, initiated in 2004 to the end of improving rule of law in Romania.
The Initiative for a Cleaner Justice System aims to:
• monitor the law-making process and authorize normative acts at a Government level, especially with respect to ‘targeted’ normative acts;
• monitor and evaluate human, material and informational resource management in the legal and penitentiary systems;
• evaluate the quality of internal procedures and MJ and ANP management;
• evaluate legal practices in corruption and corruption-related cases;
• evaluate the legal process with respect to the structures involved in combating corruption and organized crime;
• draft reports, recommendations and alternative policies on the aforementioned themes.
At the same time, only a few days prior to the publication of the European Commission report on the cooperation and verification mechanism in Romania, on June 24 the IJC launched its own report on the main issues in Romanian justice in mid 2007.
