Joint SELDI-ANTICORRP conference on enhancing civil society’s advocacy efforts in countering corruption in critical sectors in South-East Europe

RAS researcher, Valentina Dimulescu, attended the joint SELDI –ANTICORRP conference entitled “Enhancing CSOs Advocacy Efforts for Countering Corruption in Critical Sectors in SEE: Leveraging the EU Accession Process and State of the Art Research”. The event took place in Podgorica, Montenegro from October 29 to October 30, 2015.

The aim of the event was to bring together local and regional stakeholders so as to discuss the best methods for transforming the existing cutting-edge anti-corruption and good governance research into efficient policy and advocacy tools in South-East Europe. The participants focused on the role of civil society in evaluating the impact of current anti-corruption measures and stressed the need of stronger collaboration with public institutions, the media, and the general public. The participants noted the importance of free access to data, such as public procurement databases, asset declarations, financial audits of state-owned enterprises and the reports and recommendations by the European Commission.

While in the first conference panel the participants discussed the methods of transforming cutting-edge anti-corruption and good governance research into policy and advocacy tools, in the second the participants focused on the possible methods through which CSOs can improve good governance (via both research and advocacy) in their national energy sectors.
