The Coalition for a Clean Parliament – European Elections (CPC-AE) is protesting against the postponement of naming Romania’s representatives to the European Parliament and is prompting political parties to cooperate with the Government in taking a decision as soon as possible, regarding the elections.
In order for any election process to go well, it is necessary that a predictable calendar be set up, to ensure the correctness of and trust in the electoral process.
This year’s first postponement of the European elections was not justified and deprived the public of the possibility to express their options regarding Romania’s representatives to the European Parliament.
The CPC-AE asks that the Government puts an end to this state of ambiguity toward the electorate, political parties and European partners and recalls the necessity of fixing the serious organization deficiencies which regularly inflict a negative impact on the correctness of the electoral process.
Since these are Romania’s first European elections, already afflicted by the political problems that occurred during the first half of 2007, they must stand as a confirmation of our European status, of Romania’s capacity to fulfill the engagements which derive from its membership of the European Union.
